Epic Reporting Security:

  • July 30, 2013

  • Epic

Up until recently, reporting security for Epic has been an uncomfortable mash-up of report groups, reporting security classes, and user roles among other things. While this setup worked for the most part, it had its problems. However, Epic’s recently released a variety of extensions that make this much easier to manage:

93040 – Attached to the department parameter in the Hyperspace template, this restricts what is populated in the report to only those departments that the user has access to in their user profile.

93044 – Attached the department parameter in the Hyperspace template, this restricts what is populated in the report to only those service areas that the user has access to in their user profile.

25201 – This extension provides default values for integrated reports so that any departments that you have access to are passed to the Crystal report if you don’t choose anything from your category list.

25204 – This extension provide default values for integrated reports so that any service areas that you have access to are passed to the Crystal report if you don’t choose anything from your category list.

One thing to keep in mind about the last two extensions is that they require that you modify the actual Crystal reports that are attached to these templates, removing the hard-coded ability to select “all.”

Combined, these extensions will default in the departments/service areas that the user has access to and will prevent them from running the report for departments/service areas they should not have access to.
